JOB DESCRIPTION
American Apparel is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to assist our financial reporting team with our internal and external financial reporting activities. The candidate should demonstrate excellent knowledge of GAAP and have strong accounting skills as well as strong analytical and interpersonal proficiencies. Those interested should have a minimum of two to four years experience in public accounting or equivalent experience in private industry.

NOTE: Applicants must have the required experience and skills in order to apply. Salary compensation based on previous work experience and salary history. This is a full-time and permanent position. The work environment is fast-paced, friendly, dynamic and offers an excellent opportunity for a qualified individual. Other duties of this position include but are not limited to those described below:

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Support financial reporting manager in preparation of SEC filings.
  • Work with complex multi-company consolidations.
  • Prepare consolidated Balance Sheets, Profit and Loss statements and Cash Flow statements.
  • Perform financial analysis and assist in preparation of formal reporting packages.
  • Maintain GL for multiple entities.
  • GL account reconciliations.
  • Review details of each balance sheet and selected P & L accounts schedules for accuracy and compliant with GAAP and ensure that they tie in to the Trial Balances.
  • Reviewing the completeness of expenses booked every month to ensure all the expenses recurring & non-recurring, and fixed & variable are all captured for each month for proper matching cost against revenue.
  • Analyze P/L and compare budget vs. actual results and make appropriate notes to financial statements for any significant variances.
  • Research expense variances for both fixed and variable expenses and perform appropriate adjustments.
  • Assist in the audit process by reviewing audit working papers prepared by domestic and international accountants and updating the worksheets.
  • Must be committed to meeting monthly financial reporting deadlines.

    REQUIREMENTS
  • Accounting degree.
  • At least two to four years of public accounting experience or at least five or more years of experience in industry accounting.
  • Strong planning, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word and computerized accounting system.
  • Attention to detail, organized and thorough.
  • Team player that can thrive in a fast paced environment.

    PREFERRED SKILLS
  • CPA candidates preferred.
  • Available to start ASAP.
